Q&A

Q1
"Why are you running for School Board?"
In order to foster the type of educational environment that helps ALL of our children succeed, we must actively work together. This includes educators, admin, coaches, parents, volunteers, community members... the roles we play make a tremendous difference in the lives of our children and in the quality of our community as a whole. I believe that my personal experiences and gifts can be beneficial in this volunteer position, and can serve well this community that we all know and love.
Longtime residents of our community and the newcomers like myself all want Pilot Point ISD to be a sought-after place of employment for our incredible educators, and somewhere every single one of our children can thrive. And I believe I can play a part in achieving that goal.
Q2
What qualifications do you have for this position?
I am a passionate leader with a desire to serve and see our school district achieve its highest potential! My experience as a business owner in the ag industry, combined with my prior experience as a paraprofessional in an elementary school, as well as the current position I hold on the PTO Leadership Team, affords me the experience needed to serve effectively in this role. As a longtime entrepreneur, I have acquired skills in leadership, business management, marketing, problem solving, communication, and critical thinking. I am a quick-study and always striving to expand my knowledge and grow. I am an effective communicator and a passionate advocate for the overall interests of our students, teachers, and staff, and I will take my passion and energy in to my role as board member.

Q3
"If elected, how do you plan to be effective in this role?"
Prior to having my kids I was a full-time volleyball coach for 7 years. Why does this matter? Well, while athletics is certainly not the most important thing in life, it IS quite effective at teaching you how to be a team player. The bottom line is that a School Board has to operate as a team. You do not make these decisions solo, and your vote is one of multiple. This is by design, and it is vital. Just like any successful team, it is imperative that we challenge one another and push each other to be more effective in our roles. This includes considering different perspectives, thinking critically about issues, pressing in to the hard topics, and moving forward standing on what we believe to be best for our district as a whole. This does not mean we will all agree on every issue or on the way in which we think is best to solve a problem, but it does mean that we will challenge one another to become more efficient leaders as we sit at the helm of our district.
Q4
"What made you decide to run for school board?"
Having an impact and helping bring about positive change are two very important values in my life. I try to consistently look around and find ways in which I can help meet needs. We can't do everything, but we can all do something. I am running for school board because this is an area I believe my gifts as well as my experience in the public school system can have a positive impact. The ripple effect of the decisions made by our school board are far-reaching and affect our students, teachers, administrators, and community as a whole. I hope to use my specific skillset to help navigate the choppy waters of both maintaining our traditions and history as well as evolving to meet the needs of a growing school district. In my decision to run for school board, I hope to serve as someone who can bridge gaps while our district continues to experience this growth. My strengths in leadership and communication can be tremendous assets to our school board, and I believe my fresh perspective as a newcomer to the area will be extremely valuable in this role. Ultimately, I want what is best for our students, and what is best for our students is for our district to achieve its highest potential. I will work tirelessly towards that goal.
